The History of Genesis
The heritage of Genesis Remastered extends back to 1989, when the original Genesis LPMud was founded at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. As one of the pioneering implementations of the LPMud driver and mudlib, the game served as a collaborative sandbox for decades of builders, writers, and programmers.
Over the next several decades, the game grew to encompass a massive world comprised of more than a dozen distinct realms and 75+ occupational, layman, and racial guilds, preserving the efforts of over one hundred named contributors.
The Remastered Era (2025)
In late 2025, Genesis Remastered was launched. This project represents a modern, nostalgic reimagining of the classic codebase. Rather than changing the text-based heart of the game, the remaster introduces a modern web client interface (complete with a dynamic map, inventory system, and scripting API) alongside rebalanced core mechanics.
Today, Genesis Remastered is operated as a separate, free-to-play service, continuing the legacy of the original codebase for both returning veterans and a new generation of players.
