Welcome

Post by admin »

I want to welcome everyone to Genesis Remastered. Let's launch!

This launch includes some improvements from the original game, including a new web client.

Package Support
The web client supports importing your favorite triggers and aliases from the original mud.

First install the package manager in the original game, written by Faery and hosted here: https://github.com/ex0sphere/GenesisMUD/tree/main. You can download all of your triggers and aliases in a bundle.

Then in the Genesis Remastered client, choose Packages->Install from the menu. Then click "Upload" and choose your file.

Thematic Music
When you travel through the world, it should sound like it. The web client provides thematic music and sound effects as you travel from place to place.

The number of areas with music will increase over time as we find good sound effects to make your journey more engaging.

You can disable the background music through Config->BG Music.

The music is provided via Youtube at launch, and ad blockers may help provide a better experience.

Show me the numbers!
You have the option, if you wish, to see the numbers that run behind the scenes.
To enable, type "options shownumbers on".

Note that any numbers on opponents will be affected by your appraise enemy skill, to make the experience a little more thematic.

Policies
Genesis has made a lot of decisions on how to run the game, for good or for bad. Many rules from decades ago are still in place, and many bad policies remain. For example, this is the new "help rules", another thing that the old administration had unchanged:

Code: Select all

                     PARAGRAPH 1
Every player has the right to be treated with respect.

                     PARAGRAPH 2
This includes the people that we do not like, and that you do not like.

                     PARAGRAPH 3
This is a game, and there are real people behind every character. You
have the right to remind anyone at any time of this if someone's roleplay
actions appear to neglect this fact.

                     PARAGRAPH 4
If you wish to be a frog, you may do so. You will retain the rights
in prior paragraphs regardless of this choice. We are a frog positive game.
There will be changes to the alt discussion policy, and the botting rules will be evaluated as well. There will be much stricter limits on when the AOP team will be allowed to act based on IMs. Number discussions will be allowed (though likely limited to specific channels so purists do not need to hear them).

In addition, there will be a policy board on the forums. Policy rules will be publicly posted, so that everyone can discuss their impacts and understand them. In the longer term,

Who makes the rules?
The original game used a "Keeper knows best" hierarchy. The long term goal is for there to be a "board of directors" - a group of players that discuss policy, vote on rule changes, and publish their work. This board will include both players and wizards, as everyone has a stake in making the game work well. Power had been much too highly concentrated amongst a very small group of admin, many of whom do not even play the game actively, and this has led to very problematic power dynamics.
